WORKSHOPS

ACARP Roadway Development Operators' Workshops

Introduction

The Roadway Development Operators' Workshops were initiated in September 2006 as part of ACARP’s overall Roadway Development Improvement Project and have been conducted on a six monthly basis since that time. The objective of the Workshops is to provide all personnel involved in roadway development a forum to:

  • Learn of emerging best practice and roadway development initiatives
  • Learn of developments in equipment and technology
  • Network with peers, and share their experience and learnings (and not just their successes),
    and
  • Identify areas for targeted research

Workshops are held in the three major mining regions each six months, Pokolbin (Newcastle/Hunter Valley region NSW), Penrith (Southern/Western NSW), and Mackay, Moranbah or Emerald (Central Queensland) so that mine based roadway development personnel have the opportunity to attend a Workshop in their region without losing time to attend an interstate venue and incurring the associated travel and accommodation expenses.

The Workshops are structured to provide an opportunity for operators to tell other operators about their mine and their particular experiences in roadway development, and to provide updates from researchers and OEMs involved in roadway development research and equipment development respectively, together with keynote presentations from mining consultants (at times). While the Workshop is for all personnel interested in and associated with roadway development, it is unashamedly an Operators' Workshop, with the emphasis on operators sharing their experiences and improving their knowledge of roadway development.

The Workshops also provide opportunities for the ACARP Roadway Development Task Group to update participants on the overall Roadway Development Improvement Project, and to "workshop" roadway development related research priorities.

Presentations were initially categorised under six sections for easy reference, including:

Other categories have since been added to capture the themes addressed in subsequent Workshops including:

Presentations from future Roadway Development Operators' Workshops will be added following subsequent Workshops
